Description This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to interpret and apply the rules as they apply to golf played at an A-Grade level.

Learning Outcomes and Application This unit applies to current, junior or aspiring athletes who want to pursue a career in golf at a regional, state, territory or national level. Those undertaking this unit should be a scholarship holder with a regional, state, territory or national Institute of Sport, a member of a state, territory national team, squad or development program, or a member of a second tier national competition.

Element: Observe a golf competition.
  • Access and interpret golf rules, regulations and policies.
  • Observe players and club officials, with minimal disruption to the game, to confirm that the game is conducted according to the rules and etiquette of golf.
  • Seek clarification of application of golf rules and etiquette as required.
  • Identify any breaches of rules and etiquette by players and report to appropriate personnel according to organisational policies and procedures.

  • Make decisions on own game using relevant information.

makes decisions in relation to own game based on the rules and etiquette of golf and recognises and reports when breaches of rules and etiquette occur according to appropriate channels and using appropriate communication strategies

applies knowledge of golf rules, regulations and etiquette to mark playing cards.

Context of and specific resources for assessment

Assessment must ensure interpretation of the rules of golf and the application of these to own game at A-Grade level under competition conditions on sufficient occasions to demonstrate competency and consistency of performance.

Assessment must also ensure access to:

golf training and competition facilities

other participants competing at appropriate levels in golf competitions to observe and practice with

suitably qualified golfing officials and support staff

resources and equipment such as clubs, balls and playing cards

rules and regulations of golf.

Method of assessment

A range of assessment methods should be used to assess practical skills and knowledge. The following examples are appropriate for this unit:

observation of application of rules and regulations to own game at the A-Grade level

oral or written questioning to assess knowledge of relevant rules, regulations and etiquette of golf

third-party reports from coaches or mentors detailing application of rules and regulations

completed and verified playing cards.

Holistic assessment with other units relevant to the industry sector, workplace and job role is recommended.

reporting requirements and channels to report breaches in rules and regulations

terminology of golf rules and regulations such as par, birdie and bogie

the role of scoring and requirements for marking the card to ensure scores are recorded accurately.
